Common questions
What size is 4x2 timber in millimetres?
It's usually sold as 47x100mm. Likewise, 6x2 is 47x150mm and 8x2 is 47x200mm.
Should I use treated or untreated timber?
Use treated timber outdoors or anywhere it could get damp. Untreated timber suits dry, internal work. Timber in contact with the ground needs treatment rated for it, so ask us if you're not sure.
What size joists do I need?
Joist size depends on the span, spacing and load. Check with your structural engineer, or use your building control officer's span tables.
